Project No Stand Zone

On May 20th @ Stein Park the Cody Rouge Youth Council hosted Project No Stand Zone, a community initiative to place benches at local bus stops.

For several months, members of the Youth Council had expressed a desire to address the issue of lack of benches at bus stops in the local neighborhood, so in February of this year we named our initiative Project No Stand Zone and wrote a grant to the Detroit2Nepal Foundation.

We soon found out that we had been funded by D2N’s EVO Detroit initiative, which establishes working relationships with Detroit neighborhoods by allowing them to identify their problems and advocate for solutions.

From there we partnered with Sit on it Detroit, an organization that utilizes reclaimed wood to build bus stop benches that feature small libraries, and local high schools to plan a spring event where Cody Rouge youth came together to assemble seven benches.

We are happy to say that Project No Stand Zone’s bench assembly event was a success! Check out our pictures below and keep an eye out for one of benches which will be coming soon to local bus stops very soon!

The Youth Council @ Quicken Loans

The Cody Rouge Youth Council (CRYC) recently had the opportunity to team up with Quicken Loans, General Motors and the Future Project in a vision session for the development of Stein Park at Cody Field. On Tuesday March 21, the Youth Council and friends from the Future Project at Cody APL traveled to One Campus Martius in Downtown Detroit, where we collaborated with urban planners at Quicken Loans to make plans for the development and revitalization of Stein Park. We shared our big ideas for an entertainment complex, family parks, gaming areas, a skateboard park ,more restrooms, lighting and safety stations for our neighborhood field.  We look forward to working with our corporate and community partners to see our visions become reality in the near future!!
